About Us

My introduction to Shiloh Shepherds was in 2015, when a friend shared a photo of her colleague's new puppy by chance. This prompted me to reach out to the local breeder of this new-to-me breed, and ultimately brought Tala into my life.

I had been looking for a dog that was reminiscent of the dogs from my childhood, specifically my grandfather's male German Shepherd, Sir. Sir was the unofficial baby sitter - loyal, patient, highly intelligent, dignified. Meeting my first Shilohs showed me I could have those qualities consistently in a dog. Owning Shilohs has also showed me qualities I didn't realize I needed - a sharp intelligence, problem solving skills, eagerness to learn, and a bright, comical enthusiasm for life (apparently dignity is only for show).

My induction to breeding was in stages - as a curious person with a background and career in human health care and rehabilitation, I was intrigued by the organized and scientifically minded approach the breeders took to puppy placement and logic of required health testing of all littermates. The inception of the ISSA brought in yet another layer of evidence based practice -- a genetic diversity study through UC Davis and the ongoing use of BetterBred to further guide breeding practices.

In the winter of 2019, after personal loss, I finally made the decision to begin my journey into breeding. While Tala's breeder (Shahayla Shilohs) was unavailable to mentor, she sent me to Vanessa Dutton at Guardian Kennels in Brooks, Alberta. Vanessa has been a breeder of Shiloh Shepherds for 20 years, and I am incredibly privileged to have her guidance as a breeder.

The goals of Pacific Wild Kennels is to preserve the Shiloh Shepherd breed; produce large, socially adept, and keen active companion dogs. We endeavour to uphold high standards in our breeding practice -- solid structure, stable temperaments, athleticism, and intelligence.
